Exploring D.C. Part 3: Shaw

February 24, 2017

This past weekend, we went to a part of D.C. I’d never heard of: Shaw. It’s this upcoming neighborhood I talked about in my weekly update last Sunday. So today, I want to share with you my pictures and experiences from that day.

We walked around for a while, looking at the most beautiful little houses (for example those in the first picture) and after a while, we passed this pet store. I had to put this picture into today’s blog post because this pet store had Star Wars-themed dog accessories. Let that sink in for a while. Also, being the Star Wars-fanatic he is, this picture gives my brother a reason to start reading my blog.

We also found this cool coffee house in a small alley. It’s called La Colombe and it’s literally in a little alley somewhere on 10th Street. Shaw is really nice for millennials and 20-somethings. There’s a university there as well, so there’s a lot of young people all over the neighborhood. There were tons of bars that had this après-ski vibe going on. Every single one of those bars was packed with college students, but it wasn’t annoying. It actually looked like a lot of fun. Unfortunately, being only 20 years old, I’m not allowed to go in there. Yet.

Can we take a moment to appreciate this tiny house? Remember Bear in the Big Blue House? Yeah, this isn’t his place.

Like I said in my previous blog post, after our day of exploring, we got chili dogs at the famous Ben’s Chili Bowl. I know, it looks terrible and pretty gross. But let me tell you, it’s a genius invention and it was the best chili dog I’ve ever had. It was also the first chili dog I’ve ever had but still.

So, if you’re ever in the D.C. neighborhood and you’re into beautiful little houses, cool coffee places, bars and chili dogs, I definitely recommend visiting Shaw!
