My first week at Actor Therapy in NYC is over, so I thought it would be fun to look back on what I’ve done and learned so far!
I’m in NYC for two weeks for Actor Therapy, a two week intensive for actors, with a focus on musical theatre. They basically train you for auditions and eventually, to book jobs! There are dance classes, acting classes and singing classes and besides those, there are also masterclasses from industry professionals! Classes are from 9 AM to 6 PM and they are intense, but it’s so nice to learn something new every day.
This past week, I’ve seen 4 shows on Broadway! Frozen on Tuesday, Carousel on Wednesday and Mean Girls on Thursday. You can imagine I was exhausted on Friday, haha!
On Saturday, I took the subway to Queens for a headshot shoot at Murphy Made. They did my makeup and hair and then we had a 30-minute shoot. It was so much fun and I’m so excited to see the headshots next Sunday!!!
On my way back to my apartment, I noticed 8th Ave. was blocked for a market! It was so fun to walk down the streets of 8th Ave.
On Sunday, I let myself sleep in for a little bit and then watched Mulan in bed. After that, I hung out with some classmates to study a scene for Monday’s Scene Study class.
We also went to see Hello Dolly with the Actor Therapy crew! This was by far my favorite show so far! When Donna Murphy entered the stage, I swear everyone was applauding for an entire minute.
This first week has been so intense but it’s so nice to be in the room with industry professionals every day and to learn from them. This past year has been a hard one for me because I felt like I was losing control and I felt like I’d never be good enough for this industry. Actor Therapy has taught me that I am good enough, as long as I’m willing to put in the hard work. I’m so excited for this next (last) week.
Next weekend, I want to visit Queens a little bit more and of course, do a bit of shopping!
