Emilie In DC: Week 11

April 9, 2017

Another week has passed, another weekly recap on the blog! Find out what I did on (what I like to call) my birthday week. PS: It involves lots of cake!

On Monday I had to go to work. Normally, I have Mondays off, but since I had planned a lot for Friday, I asked my supervisor if it would be okay to come in on Monday that week. Also, our NBA tickets arrived on Monday (but more on that later).

Tuesday was a pretty early day for me. I got up at 5 AM so I could be at my internship at 7 AM. That’s when they start their live program and it lasts for three hours every single day. Since I only had three weeks left at my internship, I decided that I really wanted to see a taping of the show. It turned out to be really interesting.

Tuesday night, my host family took me to The Cheesecake Factory for a surprise pre-birthday dinner. I ordered the Tex Mex Eggrolls and they were soooooooooo goooooooood! For real, I could’ve eaten three of these plates.

Also, I got a slice of the original cheesecake, which was amazing as well.

My host family was so sweet and they even got me a few presents. They got me a new coloring book, salt water taffy, a bracelet and this AMAZING T-shirt with my life mantra on it…

On Wednesday, I decided to head to a Coinstar, where you can exchange your coins into cash or gift vouchers. I ended up choosing a Starbucks card because I know I’ll definitely use this. Also, I got rid of all my coins and my wallet is way lighter now.

At night, I made cookies to share with my co-workers the next day at work. Because…

THURSDAY WAS MY BIRTHDAY!!! I turned 21 years old! One of my friends from high school flew in to town and we ended up at The Cheesecake Factory again (honestly, I could live there… I’m obsessed with their food…). This time, I ordered a Greek salad and then we both ordered Linda’s Fudge Cake a.k.a. the best cake in the entire world.

Oh yes, remember that secret package I couldn’t open until my mom told me to? Well, I was finally allowed to open it and inside were all kinds of candy and cards from family and friends! So thank you so much to everyone who sent me something. It made my day!

On Friday, I had that same Linda’s Fudge Cake for breakfast. The slices they give you are so big, you can actually eat it for two days or more! Anyway, after breakfast we headed to the National Air & Space Museum. I had been there in 2013 with my family, but it was so much fun to visit again. I’m not really all that much into planes, but this museum really is interesting and entertaining.

After the museum, we got lunch at a food court near Metro Center. I had a burrito bowl without meat and it was really good. Kind of like the one from Chipotle. We also drove to the Fashion Center at Pentagon City, which is this huge mall. About four floors and a lot of stores (that rhymes).

On Saturday, we visited George Washington’s Mount Vernon. The weather was beautiful and we spent about four hours there. If you’re ever in the D.C. area, this is the one thing that I’d recommend you do! It’s a beautiful property, filled with history (and little piglets and lambs in the spring, and they are REALLY CUTE).

To end our Saturday, we went to an NBA game. Washington Wizards vs. Miami Heat and the game was on! I didn’t really understand basketball before (and maybe I still don’t), but it was a really good game and it was exciting until the last second. We were rooting for the Wizards, of course, and we ended up losing the game by three points, which was pretty disappointing. I don’t think I’ve ever been so hung up on a sports game before.

And with that, week 11 is over. I only have three weeks left here and as sad as that might be, it’s also kind of exciting because that means that I’ll finally see my family and friends again. PS: you can find my blog post on Air & Space, Mount Vernon and more here!
