Emilie In DC: Week 10

April 2, 2017

Week 10 is over, which means it’s time for another recap. Also, it means that I ONLY HAVE 4 WEEKS LEFT IN THE USA. Anyway, find out what I did this week:

On Sunday night, I started to feel a little sick. Fast forward to 3 AM and I’ve been in the bathroom for over an hour. I know, TMI… When I finally got back to bed, I decided that I would see how I felt in the morning and then decide whether or not I would be visiting any musea that day. When I woke up, I felt fine so I had some breakfast and got dressed.

The breakfast part probably wasn’t such a good idea because 30 minutes later, I felt sick again so I ended up changing into sweats and heading back to bed…

Thankfully, I felt way better in the afternoon. And because the weather was so nice (like 23Β°C), I went outside to finish the second book in the Did I Mention I Love You series. Honestly, I love these books so much.

My lunch Tuesday was a quinoa salad with tomatoes. Quinoa is really something I learned to eat here in the US. Back in Belgium, I didn’t really like it. Now, I do like it in some ways. Also, I started the third and final book in the DIMILY-series.

For those of you who haven’t read my Emilie In DC: Week 9 post, I talked about this gluten free raisin nut bread. It’s really healthy and super filling. So if you want to check out the recipe, you can find it here.

Wednesday, I prepared the pancake batter for Sunday. I like to prepare it in advance and then freeze it. That way, I don’t have to get up early to make the entire thing from scratch.

Remember last week when I showed you guys this coloring book that I got? Well, I just wanted to say that I’ve had so much fun with it. I absolutely love how it calms me down and helps me focus!

Thursday, I saw this squirrel on my way to the Dirksen Senate Building. I will never get over the fact that there are so many squirrels in DC. And they’re not even scared of us!

The reason why I had to go to the Dirksen Senate Building was because I was attending a congressional hearing. The hearing was all about Russia and although it took 2,5 hours, I thought it was really interesting.

On Friday, it dawned on me that I only have one month left in the USA. I can’t believe I’ve been here for 10 weeks already… I know I say that in every weekly recap, but it’s true. Time really has flown by. I’ll be kind of sad to leave this place, especially because I love my internship so much. But also, I’m really excited to see my friends, family and dog again!

On Saturday, this package arrived. And the thing is, I CAN’T TELL YOU WHAT’S INSIDE… My mom sent it to me and she told me that I can’t open it until she tells me to. Somehow, I have this feeling it’s meant to be opened on my birthday (which is this Thursday. I’m turning 21.) but that could just be me, I guess.

Also, I had a little bit of popcorn while working on this blog post.

So yeah, that’s it for week 10. We have 28 days left in DC. On to week 11!
